Top Hosting Providers
Finding a good hosting provider is essential in launching a successful website. When starting out finding hosting can be a bit confusing. There are countless hosting providers each offering a range of different services. In this article, I outline companies that I think are the Top Hosting Providers – especially for those who are just starting out.
Some things to keep in mind while picking a hosting provider are:
- Customer Service
- WordPress Installation
Depending on how many visitors you already have, or are expecting to have, you’ll have to weigh up each option.
I’ve listed SiteGround as the first company in this list as this is the company that is being used to host this website. It is a U.K based company with prices starting from £2.75 ($3.52) a month.
From my experience so far I would highly recommend this hosting provider. The website loads quickly, the customer service is very good and the pricing is more than affordable. When signing up you will be asked for the regular details, name, account number etc. You will also be contacted by a customer service agent asking for identity confirmation. It is a very simple process and should not take you more than 20 mins.
If you’re launching a new website I would recommend you sign up for the StartUp package – which includes 10GB of space and can accommodate 10,000 visitors.
Once again, this is a hosting provider I have had previous experience with. In fact, my very first website was hosted by JustHost. I recommend this provider simply because I feel their customer service is exemplary.
Being a complete newbie I obviously required a lot of assistance and so was contacting customer service a lot – suffice to say they were more than helpful. Although my first website was not a WordPress themed website – I actually coded the website out from scratch – JustHost does have one-click WordPress installation. I did briefly dabble with this feature and it works as well as on any other hosting provider, if not better.
The pricing for the basic package is only $3.95 per month. You will be asked whether you want hosting for 12, 24 or 36 months. If you’re committed to launching your website and know you will be dedicated enough to keep managing it well into the future, I would highly recommend you choose the longest time frame available. After your first billing period expires, prices do revert to the normal $9.49 per month – so keep that in mind!
Note: The above rule applies to most hosting providers.
You’ve probably already heard of HostGator. They’re a huge company with adverts that are seen everywhere, I don’t think I have seen as many ads for any other hosting provider as for HostGator – from Facebook to Youtube to Google, they have it all covered.
All that marketing is not without justification. HostGator provides a variety of services and plans to choose from. For example, you can simply click Web Hosting and choose from one of the 3 available options. You also have the option to pay a little more and choose Cloud Hosting or WordPress Hosting. The cheapest “Hatchling Plan” starts at $3.95 per month.
The other advantages of HostGator include having a 45-day money back guarantee, great customer service and a bunch of freebies included within your purchase. You get free site security and backup with most of the plans, as well as free domain registration. HostGator also offers easy WordPress installation along with other e-commerce management systems.
The load speed is a bit slower than the other two, however, if you get one of the Cloud Hosting plans the speed is unmatched. You’ll also get more storage and a larger allowance for the maximum number of visitors per month. The downside is that it is a bit more expensive than the Web Hosting Plans.
BlueHost is another large hosting provider and if you’re looking to build a WordPress website you are bound to have heard of them. They are officially recommended by WordPress and according to statistics, they currently host over 2 million websites on the internet. So they’re clearly popular, offering inexpensive, easy to use hosting.
I recommend this hosting provider because of simplicity, especially for those wanting to create a new website. A simple website, made for a hobby or personal blog will be perfect for hosting on Bluehost. Their basic plan starts at only $2.95 per month, but you do have to sign up for a long period i.e 36 months. They have easy WordPress installation as well as other apps and integrations. Bluehost also offers free domain registration and site security is very good.
The page load speed is on the slower side. So if you’re creating a more complicated website then Bluehost may not be the best option. They have launched a Cloud Hosting service to improve load times, but it does cost a bit more. The cheapest cloud hosting plan is $6.95 per month – you may be better off trying another hosting provider at that price. Some people also experience issues with Customer Support.
All in all though, using Bluehost for a simple blogging website is a very smart decision. It is cheaper than any other alternative and with an easy WordPress installation, the process is made very simple. Users expecting a higher volume of visitors or wanting to create a large, complex website should explore other options.
